Volunteer

This award recognises the efforts of a young person or persons who gives their time voluntarily for the benefit of others.

Arts

This award has been open to individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Colchester.  This covers the entire gamut from the thrill of theatre; the creative arts; the magic of dance to the inspiration of the written word.

Carer

This recognises a young person who has cared for someone else.  This could be caring for a family member or friend who has an illness or disability where the young person has given their time and love to support that person.

Environment

This category recognises work by young people to address either the impacts of climate change, or other environmental issues. It will go to a group or an individual who has, by means of a particular project or an ongoing commitment, significantly contributed to improving the environment.

Community Improvement

Now to an award with a difference as it comes with a cash sum to encourage young people to make a difference in their community.  So not only do they receive a trophy and a certificate, but also receive a cheque for £500 to put towards their project. We are looking for project ideas that will help to promote a sense of community and improve the quality of people’s lives, previous winners include a Youth Shelter, a Youth Club and a BMX track.

Outstanding Achievement

This achievement could be in sport; education; leisure or health and the judges were looking for nominations that demonstrate great effort to reach certain goals.  We are not necessarily looking for winners, because they have been celebrated already, but it is about a young person who has battled against difficult circumstances to achieve their aims.

Personal Journey

This recognises the ability of an individual or a group of individuals to overcome personal difficulties in their family, social, educational or work lives.  It is about young people or a young person who has been able to retain control of their life whilst experiencing difficult circumstances and stressful situations
