The categories are:
Entrepreneur
The
Entrepreneur award is open to groups of young people, or an individual,
that has come up with an enterprising idea for a business or community
activity that makes money or meets a need.
Volunteer
This
award recognises the efforts of a young person or persons who gives
their time voluntarily for the benefit of others.
Arts
This
award has been open to individuals or groups who have made an
outstanding contribution to the arts in Colchester. This
covers
the entire gamut from the thrill of theatre; the creative arts; the
magic of dance to the inspiration of the written word.
Carer
This
recognises a young person who has cared for someone else.
This
could be caring for a family member or friend who has an illness or
disability where the young person has given their time and love to
support that person.
Environment
This category
recognises work by young people to address either the impacts of
climate change, or other environmental issues. It will go to a group or
an individual who has, by means of a particular project or an ongoing
commitment, significantly contributed to improving the environment.
Community Improvement
Now
to an award with a difference as it comes with a cash sum to encourage
young people to make a difference in their community. So not
only
do they receive a trophy and a certificate, but also receive a cheque
for £500 to put towards their project. We are looking for project ideas
that will help to promote a sense of community and improve the quality
of people’s lives, previous winners include a Youth Shelter, a Youth
Club and a BMX track.
Outstanding Achievement
This
achievement could be in sport; education; leisure or health and the
judges were looking for nominations that demonstrate great effort to
reach certain goals. We are not necessarily looking for
winners,
because they have been celebrated already, but it is about a young
person who has battled against difficult circumstances to achieve their
aims.
Personal Journey
This recognises the ability
of an individual or a group of individuals to overcome personal
difficulties in their family, social, educational or work
lives.
It is about young people or a young person who has been able to retain
control of their life whilst experiencing difficult circumstances and
stressful situations
